Representing Numbers (2011/2012)

The Grade Sevens love this activity (year after year after year!).  It’s certainly become an “oldie but a goodie”!

After studying the concepts related to Number Sense and Numeration, students reviewed their notebooks, textbook and handouts to identify the   various ways that numbers can be represented.  We came up with the following:

  • Addition
  • Subtraction
  • Multiplication
  • Division
  • Exponents
  • Square Roots
  • Order of Operations
  • Multiples
  • Factors

After some practice as a whole class, students were able to select their own number and then represent it using the above nine ways.  As well, students selected a favorite team (or made up one of their own!) and created a team jersey with the logo, the number and the many ways to represent that number.  As you can see in the slideshow, they were very creative!

This was a fun assignment to assess because I was able to get an idea of the teams your children like (kudos to Brent for cheering for the RIGHT team!) and I got to practice my math as well.

Enjoy our jerseys, maybe you can ZOOM in and practice your math as well!
